All it really means is that these are the textbooks we are using to make sure we all teach the same thing. Curriculum just refers to books and programs.

2. Curriculum is arranged that way to make it easier for teachers. They group things together by grade so that they make sure everything is covered. Think of a conveyor belt assembly line then put your kid on it.

3. Public school assumes every child is the same. We went to see Irving Berlin's White Christmas on stage at the Sergerstom Theatre. Talk about talented individuals. They tapped up a storm. I'm guessing that many of them should never have been required to sit through a calculus class.

4. Public school is governed by politicians that are trying to make everyone happy. Individual teacher's may care about your kids. I know many that do. But overall, the administrators are judged on performance and test scores.

5. Public school is broken and it may not be fixed any time soon. But you have options. And homeschooling may not be perfect but it can be adapted to the needs of the kid, not the system.

Celebrities who Homeschool: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie travel the world with their six children. It looks like we are headed back in that direction for homeschooling our children.

photo via

Homeschooling in Sweden: Not so Good

Homeschooling is Sweden is not what it is in the United States. Our society tells us that public school is free but is it really free. Take a closer look. You might reconsider homeschooling.

//Clothing Kids tend to have a larger wardrobe to attend public school. There's peer pressure and kids feel the need to compete more with other kids. Some public schools even require a student to wear a uniform. And the parents must pay for this.

//Health Kids go to school all the time when they are sick. They spread the germs around. Your kid gets sick. Some illnesses require a doctor's visit, time off work for a parent and medicine. Having a bunch of kids in a small classroom breathing recycled air all day, five days a week is unhealthy and it cost our families and our society.

// Fundraisers Would you like to buy some cookie dough? Of course you don't but if your kid attends public school, you are guilted into participating. Kids feel the pressure and so do adults. Fundraisers are a big money drain for families in public school.

//Environment Kids ride buses to school. And the buses spew forth big black pollution. Where I live the busses usually have less than 15 kids on board. Because parents must pay for bus service. So instead all the moms drive their mini-buses to drop their kids off each day. With high gas prices and the environmental impact, this can add up.

Let's contrast this to homeschooling. You can choose to go with a public homeschooling option like K12 that offers free homeschooling. They mail you your books and do some work online.

Your children can have less clothing because they do not have the peer pressure that is evident in public schools. (That doesn't mean they have to look weird.)

They eat healthy lunches at home and can stick to their bedroom if they are feeling sick. your children develop strong family relationships and spend lots of time outdoors. They may take a few classes a week outside the home which means less driving and less exposure to the flu in winter.

Public School is not free.

Catholic+Homeschooling

Would you like a glimpse into the day of a Catholic Homeschooler? Students who frame questions and issues and then go about answering and analyzing them take responsibility for their own learning and become problem solvers and, perhaps more importantly, problem finders. WiloStar3D students-- in pursuit of new understandings--are led by their own ideas and informed by the ideas of others. This is the basis for the WiloStar3D Method. I don't have strong feelings either way about Justin Beiber but I do think in our society we place to much emphasis on being good at everything. The great thing about homeschooling is that a student can focus on what they are good at and then do the least in other subjects.

Justin Bieber has an amazing voice and whether he knows the continents or not, who really cares. Justin Beiber, I could care less if you know the continents and I think you add a lot of joy to peoples lives so ignore the homeschool criticism. They are just jealous of you!

Finding the Best Free Online High School

You have many options when it comes to Homeschooling so check them out carefully.
